Somatic Healing in NYC: Let’s do this together

Six years ago, I wouldn’t have used the word “somatic,” let alone imagined opening a studio dedicated to it. I was exhausted and working nonstop. Easily overwhelmed, often angry, and completely disconnected from my body. Therapy didn’t appeal to me as it felt out of reach, or maybe just irrelevant. I didn’t have language for what I was experiencing, just a growing sense that something in me was fraying as I was stuck in the same adverse patterns over and over. Something needed to shift.

Learning from my body

What changed everything was a decision to finally stop pushing and start feeling. To meet myself honestly, slow down and turn inward, even when that felt scary or uncomfortable. That’s how I started exploring somatic practices like movement, breathwork, and sound. Little by little, things started to open up. It wasn’t always easy (it still isn’t), and there were definitely moments of discomfort and vulnerability. But there was also clarity, and a sense of returning to something I didn’t realize I’d lost.

I met teachers who helped me feel more at home in myself, who didn’t try to fix me or explain things away. They offered wisdom, space, and support. Through that, I started to heal and become grounded. Life started to feel fuller, not because everything was suddenly perfect, but because I was actually in it.

Creating an In-town Retreat Space

This journey sparked a desire to build a space for somatic therapy in the heart of NYC, for people like me – people who were tired of feeling stressed out, tightly wound, and like they were losing themselves in the rat race. I wanted to create a studio that was somewhere between a womb and a spaceship (safe, yet at the same time, expansive, exploratory).

After a ton of hard work, I think we’ve managed to do just that. Tucked into a quiet stretch of Greenpoint, our 2,500 square foot studio welcomes people the moment they walk through the door.

The sound and light are the first things you notice. We use a custom-built LED neon system that wraps the room in slow, tonal transitions: warm yellow, deeper moving colors, or a subtle glow that helps people drop into a more meditative state. It’s about supporting the nervous system and making it easier to unwind, feel safe, and tune in.

The quadraphonic sound system surrounds you from all four corners of the room. Whether you’re in a sound bath or a movement session, it holds you in a rich, immersive layer of sound that helps keep your attention inside your own body, rather than drifting outward.

We don’t have mirrors. We want you to feel yourself and move from a place of sensation, not performance. To get weird, get quiet, and follow whatever thread of energy is moving through you.

I didn’t want to create another wellness space that felt clinical or corporate. Samadhi was built for depth and the kind of practices that don’t always have a neat shape. Breathwork that takes you somewhere unexpected, movement that isn’t choreographed, and emotions that don’t ask permission.

Why Here, Why Now?

There’s something wild about living in New York City. Your nervous system is always on high alert. It’s easy to spend the whole day in a loop of subways, Slack messages, takeout, and endless to-do lists, barely noticing how tense your shoulders are or how shallow your breath has become.  It can feel like there’s no place to slow down without rushing to the next thing.

Embodied healing invites you to slow down, listen, and notice what your body is holding, giving it space to move and release. Samadhi represents a pause inside the noise and a studio that’s also a retreat center – a place to come back to yourself in the middle of your week.

You don’t have to fly to the desert or book a month-long retreat to experience healing (though we all love doing that, too). You can continue your journey right here, in Greenpoint, on a Tuesday, in sweatpants.

Finding connection

Our offerings range from somatic dance and yoga to breathwork, sound baths, intimacy workshops, and guided meditation. Every experience is designed to help you feel more connected to yourself, others, and your own truths. If you’re reading this because you’ve been feeling off or disconnected, burnt out or stuck, I get it. I’ve been there, I’m still there on many days. This whole space exists because I need it, too. If you’re looking to connect, heal and find community, we are here and we welcome you. My hope is that you walk into Samadhi and feel something shift.
